Norfolk Language Workshop at Wymondham College

On 10th July 2017 Wymondham College hosted its first Norfolk Schools Languages Workshop to give an opportunity to keen linguists from the region to come together for a day of creative language activities.

Almost 70 KS3 and KS4 students from the region assembled to enjoy language taster sessions in Italian, Portuguese and Japanese before being divided up in language groups (French, German and Spanish) to produce a "play-in-the-box". The young learners were asked to come up with a short play based on a collection of random objects in a box. The challenge was not just to collaborate with their peers from other schools but also to be creative and spontaneous in the foreign language. Every single student had an active role to play in the performance.

The outcome was more than impressive as all ten groups delivered entertaining and often very funny performances in the foreign language. The winning teams were commended for their use of spontaneous speech and the originality of the plot. The jury commented on the high standard of language in all entries and congratulated all schools on their range of talented and enthusiastic linguists.

Many thanks for the MFL staff at Wymondham College, in particular to Martina MacMillan, for organising this hugely successful event. We look forward to many such opportunities to come in the future.
