4th Farlingaye German Conference

On Thursday 23rd November 80 KS4&5 students from six local schools met at Farlingaye High School in Woodbridge, Suffolk for an afternoon of talks and workshops on all things German. The programme included a German meal of “Brezel” and “Berliner” followed by a range of workshops. Bettina Pfeiffer and Daniel Cabeza Campillo from the University of East Anglia introduced students to the principles of subtitling. Dr Lizzie Stewart from King’s College London talked about translation techniques and the importance of cultural knowledge when translating one language into another. Katrin Schulz, Host a teacher from Germany participant, delivered a talk on DDR history and culture from the perspective of an eye witness. The school’s German Language Assistant, Miriam Hetzel led a session on German pop music. The day was rounded off with a quiz and raffle with prizes generously provided by the Essex and East Anglia Branch of the Association for Language Learning. Thanks also go to the Goethe Institut London, for providing the funding for this event.
